What do I do if my registration is about to expire?

30 Jul 2010

Statement from the Optometry Board of Australia

You can renew your registration online now. You will need the user ID and password that you should have received in a letter sent to you from AHPRA recently.

If you did not receive a letter and your registration is due now or in the next week, call 1300 419 495 and our team will assist you.

As long as you renew your registration within one month of it falling due, you will be registered under what is called a grace period. You can still work in this period; you will still be registered; and your employer can review your registration status online.

However you must renew your registration within one month of it falling due. You should have received a letter from AHPRA recently explaining what you have to do next.

When you renew online, your renewal will be complete as soon as the online transaction is finished, unless you have made adverse declarations that need to be assessed, or Bpay payment is still pending.

Once you have lodged your renewal you can continue practising your profession whilst your renewal application is assessed.

How do I renew my registration online?
At the AHPRA website or your National Board website, login (at the top right hand corner) using the user ID and password that you received in a letter from AHPRA. Click 'Renew Registration' then follow the prompts.

When you renew your registration, make sure you check the registration standards for your profession, as you must meet these under the National Law. These are published on your national board website.

Please note: If you have Limited Registration or you are a chiropractor you cannot renew online, as there are additional information requirements. You need to mail your hard copy form together with any other documentation required, following the instructions on the form.

How else can I renew my registration?
When you have received your letter, it will include a renewal form. You can complete this form and mail it to AHPRA at PO Box 9958 in your capital city.

What if my registration is not yet due - can I log in?
You will only be able to renew online when your renewal has been issued. This will usually be about six weeks before your renewal is due.

AHPRA is sending letters - including your user ID and password - progressively to all registrants over the next few weeks. Priority is being given to practitioners whose registration is due first. When you have received your user ID and password, you will be able to login online to change your contact details at any time. You will also be able to renew online if your renewal is due.

If you are registered and you have not received a letter from AHPRA with your user ID and password by the end of August, please contact AHPRA on 1300 419 495.

Need more information?
There is a lot of information published on each Board website and on the AHPRA website that will answer many of your questions.

If you have tried to renew your registration or have other questions that are not answered by the information on our websites, please call our contact centre on 1300 419 495.
