Return to practice guidance documents published today

25 May 2020

The Optometry Board of Australia (the Board) has today published six guidance documents to help practitioners plan for a safe return to practice.

The Board has published these materials in recognition of a need within the profession for clear guidance materials to assist practitioners who plan to take a lengthy break from practice.

If you would like to remain registered, there are actions that you will need to take to meet your ongoing obligations and to make returning to practice easier. Planning to complete required activities, understanding your obligations when taking a break and staying in touch with the profession are all key to a smooth transition back to practice.

The Return to practice guidance documents published today on the Board’s Codes, guidelines and policies page are:

  • Tips for taking a break from practice
  • FAQ: Return to practice
  • Information sheet - Returning to practice or significantly changing scope of practice
  • Professional development
  • Supervised practice plan template, and
  • Return to practice application checklist.

The Board’s return to practice guidance documents are to be read in conjunction with the Board’s Recency of practice registration standard.
